Hardman, Claire

Claire was born in 1955 and has led an active, interesting and varied life.  First employed at a public relations firm in Geelong, and then enlisted as an officer in the Australian Regular Army.  She was the first female officer to join the Royal Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and she was the first female production and maintenance engineer at the Army's fixed and rotary winged aircraft workshop in Queensland.  She was also the first woman to command her own independent general engineering and amphibious vehicle workshop.  She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the position of operations officer responsible for the Australian Defence Force's support to the civilian community in times of natural disasters in NSW, the ACT and Lord Howe Island.

Claire comes from a long line of South Gippsland farmers with two of her relatives being featured in the book Land of the Lyrebird, a history of the clearing of the Gippsland rainforest by the first settlers.

Claire completes work in a wide range of styles and media. Her work includes pen and ink, gouache, watercolour, computer graphics, sculpting, carving, gilding, jewellery and textiles. Producing original art all her life for friends and relatives, she has only recently begun selling her works. She has completed a number of privately commissioned works and welcomes enquiries.

She now lives with her husband on their property at Turtons Creek and divides her time between the farm, family and her art work.
