Ann's affinity with nature was engendered by her father from a very early age. She fondly recalls childhood holidays camping 'out bush' and still loves to do so today. Creating has always been part of her life, whether planting a garden of 500 roses or rearing sheep and goats for fleece. She used this fleece for spinning, weaving and felting. Also dyeing the wool with plant materials collected from her own property when she lived in North East Victoria (a sea change has drawn Ann to our beautiful Prom Coast). Ann has always loved textiles and has explored both hand and machine embroidery, as well as felting and patchwork. Drawing classes led Ann to pastels and this medium has become her first love. Of pastels, Ann says, 'I love the vibrant colours and getting my hands dirty.' Ann has been on numerous overseas trips to inspire both her felting and pastel work, bringing home the colours of the orient in rolls of vibrant silk thread, many photos of wonderful west and eastern panoramas, and yarns to roll off her easel and felting board.
