Walter, Anna

I started painting about thirty years ago in Munich, Germany, as a member of a very active art group. I continued my interest in art when I came to Foster.

At present I am a member of the Fish Creek Art Group and the Leongatha Arts and Crafts Society.

In the past eight years I have taken part in various group exhibitions at Foster, Leongatha, Mirboo North, Tyers, Meeniyan, and Sandy Point. I also entered work in Rotary Art Shows in Leongatha, Yarram and Trafalgar.

I have received awards in 2005 at the Foster & District Agricultural Society Inaugural Art Show and Leongatha Art & Crafts Society, in 2006 at the Meeniyan Arts & Crafts Exhibition and 2008 at the Leongatha Art & Crafts Society.

For the past 26 years I have been living in beautiful South Gippsland, surrounded by breathtaking, unspoiled beaches, gently rolling hills, magnificent birds and much more. There I find abundant inspiration and motive for my painting and also for my photography.

My preferred medium is still watercolour, for its transparency and subtlety, but also because it continues to be exciting, challenging and stimulating.

In my work I mostly try to capture the beauty of our local coastline, especially the outstanding Wilsons Promontory National Park, in its peace and seasonal changes. It has been the destination of much loved family outings for many years and it never loses its attraction, no matter how often we visit.

I like to communicate the affection I feel for this area and awaken viewers' desire to visit these places and see the scenery in its magic and charm for themselves. In this sense I feel a bit like an ambassador for South Gippsland, one of the most enchanting corners of Australia.
