I was born in Box Hill Victoria and, as a child, loved to draw. At primary school my drawing was selected for the school magazine, and so I embarked on my artistic journey. In 1975 I married a farmer from Mardan near Leongatha and began a completely new lifestyle. I subsequently met (the late) Lance Sullivan, who became my artistic mentor. One valuable lesson that Lance passed on was that you don't have to go for miles to find something beautiful to paint. He would say, 'just find somewhere comfy to set up and, generally, something nice will be there to paint ...' Living as I do, nestled in the rolling hills of South Gippsland, finding inspiration is not difficult. The delights of the seaside are also close at hand. I currently work with oils and pastels, producing realist impressions of rural and coastal vistas. The work of the Impressionists and also the Heidelberg School inspire me to push the boundaries with each new work. |
